The publisher offers advertising space for the purpose of
bringing buyer and seller together for their mutual benefit. Years of publishing
experience indicate the reader must be able to expect satisfactory service from the
advertiser in order to respond to future advertisements. It is by giving such satisfactory
service that advertisers can expect to continue productive advertising. Readers are
reminded that all transactions are "two-way streets," and equity must exist for
both parties for a satisfactory transaction.
Advertisements submitted, which are not in the best interest of the advertiser
specifically, and of the trade generally, in the opinion of the publishers, or which may
mislead readers, will be rejected. Customer checks of advertisers are periodically made by
the publishers in a practical effort to assure accuracy and reliability of all
advertisements. However, it is impossible to guarantee readers satisfaction with the
advertisers manner of doing business, and the reader is therefore reminded to
exercise common sense in responding to any advertisement. The reader is also urged to
exercise patience in awaiting response from an advertiser by making allowances for mail
transit time.
Coin World assumes no responsibility for representations made in advertisements.
Mail order rule
All transactions must be in compliance with the FTC Mail Order Rule regarding delivery
of merchandise. For a copy of the FTC Mail Order Rule write to Coin World.
No return offerings
"No Return" offerings must clearly state such and are limited to
encapsulated, graded coins. Advertisements which fail to state a return policy will be
governed by Coin Worlds Basic Advertising Policy on Inspection and Return
Period.
Return postage on buy and trade ads
All advertisers who do not state "Write First" in their ads are expected to
return merchandise postpaid. Refusal of packages at the post office may be grounds for
suspension unless the ad indicates that confirmation is needed before shipping. If
overgraded coins are to be returned at the sellers or traders expense,
advertisement must so state.
Telephone transactions
In the case of telephone transactions when a confirmation number has been issued, both
buyer and seller are expected to adhere to the telephonic agreement. Telephone and mail
order transactions are subject to the same standards.
Liability for content of ads
Advertiser assumes liability for all contents (including text representation and
illustrations) of advertisement printed, and also assumes responsibility for any claims
therefrom.
Complaints
All advertisers will be notified of complaints received in writing from the readers,
and prompt adjustment by the advertiser, if warranted, and notification to the publisher
will be expected as a condition of continued acceptance of advertising. Failure of any
advertiser to correct the cause of a complaint, or satisfactorily explain the same, may
result in suspension of advertising privileges at the discretion of Coin World.
Verification, inspection, financial
statement
Acceptance of advertising for any item or service is subject to investigation and
verification of the product or service, and of the claims made for it, in the
advertisement submitted for publication.
Coin World will utilize its Customer Checking Service to verify the accuracy of
the specified grade of advertised numismatic items. Collectors living throughout the
United States, upon instruction from the publishers, place orders for merchandise
advertised. The parcels are forwarded unopened to the publishers for examination of the
contents.
Verification by the Customer Checking Service of an advertiser shipping misrepresented
merchandise or services may result in suspension of advertising privileges at the
discretion of Coin World.
The publisher reserves the right to require a current financial statement from any
advertiser at any time.
Copy regulations
All advertisements submitted are subject to copy regulations contained in the rate
card. By submitting advertising, advertiser acknowledges that he is familiar with the
advertising contract and copy regulations then in effect. Additional copies will be
furnished upon request.
Layaway sales
Advertiser must write for complete policy requirements prior to offering layaways in
ads.
Reserve right to reject advertising
All advertising submitted is subject to publishers approval. The publisher
reserves the right to reject advertising, or suspend advertising privileges at their
discretion.
Fake, counterfeit or altered coins and paper
money
Only genuine numismatic items may be offered for sale. Coins which have been buffed,
whizzed, polished, plugged or chemically treated to appear other than their original state
must be accurately described as such in Coin World.
Altered or counterfeit coins and paper money are not acceptable for advertising in Coin
World.
Any buyer of a fake or spurious item shall be entitled to full refund and the normal
return period shall be nullified.
The word "coin" may be used only when referring to legal tender.
Coin restrikes
Restrikes and numismatic items reproduced from the original dies or plates, but at a
later date than appears on the item: the item must be restruck or reissued by the original
issuing government authority, or authorized by decree of proclamation of the issuing
government authority.
Coins struck from original dies
intended for circulation are considered coins rather than tokens and with denominations
usually on them: these include pioneer issues, the Confederate half dollar and cent, etc.
These are acceptable for advertising, provided they are accurately described and
identified as restrikes. Second or later restrikes must be distinguished from earlier
restrikes in a permanent manner, such as metal used or appreciable difference in
thickness, to be acceptable.
Any numismatic item created, designed or originally manufactured on and after March 1,
1963, which the owner wishes to advertise in Coin World as a restrike, must use the
original dies on both obverse and reverse and make the impression transferral directly
from die to planchet without otherwise making transferrals to any intermediate materials,
dies, hubs, etc. Each piece must be indelibly labeled as a restrike.
It will be incumbent upon the advertiser to verify all facts concerning method and date
of production.
Copies
Ads offering reproductions, imitations, replicas or copies of coins or other numismatic
items are acceptable for advertising under the following conditions:
1. That such items are in compliance with the "Hobby Protection Act" and the
U.S. Treasurys policy regarding coin replicas.
2. That the advertising copy or offer NOT contain false or misleading statements of the
legal tender status of such items.
3. That the items be fully described in ads and samples of such items be submitted to Coin
World with the initial advertisement.
4. All items falling in this category must be clearly marked "copy."
Cleaned coins
Cleaned coins may be advertised in Coin World. Cleaning has become an acceptable
practice, and in some instances can be beneficial. Light dipping in a mild, non-abrasive
solution may actually improve the coins appearance and may increase its market
value.
However, cleaning can also damage a coin. A coin that is dipped improperly or
repetitively will have an impaired surface, reducing its market value. Coins which have
been damaged by cleaning may be advertised because they still have collector value, but
must be designated in the ad as "cleaned."
Customers are advised of the importance of utilizing the inspection and return period
to be sure coins they have purchased meet their standards of acceptability.
Comparative price ads
Coin World will not accept advertising copy offering to buy or sell by
comparison with any other advertised buying prices. Any such reference will be deleted
from advertisers copy.
Coin grading and description
Coins and numismatic items offered for sale shall be accurately described. Coin
World recognizes "The American Numismatic Association Grading Standard for United
States Coins," "Photograde," "The Numismatic Certification Institute
Grading Guide" and "A Guide to the Grading of United States Coins" by Brown
and Dunn as the accepted standard methods of grading U.S. coins. Advertisers who do not
use any of these standard grading methods must describe, in each ad, accurately and in
detail the method of grading used. Advertisers using any one of the standard methods need
to make reference to the grading method(s) used in the ads. Coin World reserves the
right to reject any ad using methods other than the four standard methods listed.
Any advertiser placing an advertisement in Coin World agrees to adhere to these
minimum standards. Advertisers found in violation may have their advertising privileges
suspended or revoked at the discretion of Coin World.
